ABOUT THE POSITION
GTN Technical Staffing is seeking a Senior Application Database Administrator to oversee the development, management, and administration of our databases. This role is pivotal in designing and implementing new data structures, managing existing databases, securing all data, and administering all Microsoft SQL Server database instances on Linux, Windows, and Amazon RDS. The current environment is monolithic with an overabundance of stored procedures creating database performance issues. This person will focus on performance and query optimization. Your focus will be optimizing queries to create a more efficient database environment. The current design is very vertical right now with too many sprocs tracking through 1 object, creating scalability and performance issues. There is a backlog of current issues that will need immediate attention, but following bringing the backlog up to date, you will act as a "hunter"for performance issues vs. Waiting for tickets to roll in.
The Sr. Application DBA / Database Engineer will ensure 24/7 availability, security, and performance of critical databases (SQL Server, MySQL, Amazon RDS). You will design and optimize data structures, consolidate data, and resolve database issues. You will manage security and access control. In addition, the DBA / Database Engineer will collaborate with developers to integrate database requests. You will support SQL Server and SQLite processes for mobile apps, as well as conduct advanced ad hoc reporting, document data models, and transform data into actionable insights. The Sr. DBA / Database Engineer will also design and test backup/recovery procedures and lead database projects for upgrades and migrations.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
5-8+ years in the following skill sets…
- Database Administration - Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration (SQL Server on Amazon RDS is ideal)
- Performance / Query optimization
- Experience creating, diagnosing-and-rewriting, and implementing complex stored procedures, reports, and queries.
- Database design and development.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server data backup, recovery, security, and integrity.
- Experience as a standalone DBA. Willing to work independently, drive critical efforts, and plan and manage work.
- Database monitoring tools - Zabbix (or similar)
- Third-party tools such as Redgate SQL Compare and SQL Data Compare.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- SQL Server on Linux
