Position: Payroll Accountant Assistant

Location: Woodland Hills, CA

Job Overview: We are seeking a Payroll Accountant Assistant to support our Payroll & Human Resource Accountant in managing employee relations, compensation, benefits, and payroll functions within our organization. This role is essential in ensuring the efficient administration and compliance of our payroll processes and HR policies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process weekly or biweekly payroll, ensuring adherence to federal and state wage and hour laws.
  • Manage the accurate and timely processing of new hires, temporary workers, transfers, promotions, and terminations.
  • Prepare and audit payroll-related documents such as W-4s, payroll balance sheets, YTD earnings.
  • Update systems with current employee data including wages, benefits, and leave time.
  • Generate management reports detailing payroll metrics, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, and benefits deductions.
  • Coordinate and participate in payroll and insurance audits as well as tax audits.
  • Handle weekly payroll tax payments to state and federal authorities.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual payroll tax filings.
  • Reconcile bank accounts related to payroll transactions.
  • Manage employee benefits programs, process claims, and conduct educational sessions on benefits.
  • Ensure compliance with HR federal and state regulations, and maintain records accordingly.
  • Update, recommend, and implement HR policies and procedures.
  • Design and maintain filing systems for historical HR records.
  • Counsel and discipline employees, monitor job performance, and assist in resolving employee relations issues.
  • Administer benefits programs including insurance, pension plans, vacation, sick leave, and employee assistance.

 

Candidate Profile:
  • Detail-oriented with a strong knowledge of payroll and benefits administration.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a focus on accuracy and timeliness.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of managing sensitive information and employee interactions with confidentiality and professionalism.

Education and Experience:
  • Previous experience in payroll processing and HR functions is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with construction industry practices is beneficial but not required.
