About the Role
Our client is seeking an AI&T Avionics Technician to support the assembly, integration, and testing of spacecraft avionics subsystems, payloads, and ground-based test articles. This role combines electrical assembly, wire harness fabrication, PCB integration, and environmental test support to enable autonomous spacecraft operations, real-time space domain awareness, and on-orbit servicing. The position is ideal for candidates with hands-on experience in electrical systems, aerospace hardware, and test procedures, who thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
Assembly & Integration
- Assemble avionics subsystems for spacecraft, satellite payloads, and ground-based test articles
- Build engineering and flight model wire harness assemblies, including routing, termination, and connector installation
- Assemble surface-mount and through-hole components on prototype and flight PCBs
- Integrate printed circuit assemblies, sensors, wire harnesses, and mechanical components into fully functional systems
- Support cleanroom operations, including contamination control, hardware handling, and electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions
Test Execution
- Set up and operate thermal vacuum chambers and other environmental test equipment
- Support functional testing of electronics and flight harness safe-to-mate testing
- Record detailed test procedures, setups, and results for documentation and verification
- Assist in root cause analysis and resolution of test failures or non-conformances
Process & Documentation
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials (BOMs) to ensure accurate assembly
- Follow work instructions, procedures, and process documentation to support design-for-assembly feedback
- Track, document, and report non-conformances and participate in corrective actions
- Support design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives for assembly and test processes
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in electrical, aerospace, or related technology field, or equivalent hands-on experience
- 3+ years of experience in assembly and testing of aerospace, automotive, or commercial electrical systems
- Proficient soldering skills, IPC certification highly preferred
- Proficient wire harness assembly skills, IPC certification highly preferred
- Experience working in R&D or low-rate production environments
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and BOMs
- Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation practices
- Ability to follow safety, quality, and cleanroom protocols
Additional Requirements
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed to support project schedules and mission milestones
