AI Security Engineer
HIGHLIGHTS
Location: 100% Remote (U.S.)
Position Type: Contract-to-Hire (6-Month Conversion)

Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced AI Security Engineer to build and mature its enterprise Artificial Intelligence security program. This is a newly created, highly visible role partnering with executive cybersecurity leadership to establish AI security architecture, governance, risk management, and technical controls that enable the safe and responsible adoption of AI technologies across the enterprise.
This role offers the opportunity to shape the organization's long-term AI security strategy by securing Generative AI solutions, Large Language Models (LLMs), Machine Learning (ML) environments, AI integrations, cloud platforms, and AI-enabled business processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the enterprise AI Security Reference Architecture and security standards.
- Establish AI governance, risk management practices, security guardrails, and best practices for enterprise AI initiatives.
- Secure AI applications, AI integrations, AI-enabled business processes, Machine Learning pipelines, APIs, and cloud-based AI services.
- Perform AI threat modeling and translate identified risks into practical security controls.
- Protect enterprise AI environments against Prompt Injection, data leakage, model abuse, model exfiltration, supply chain compromise, unauthorized AI usage, and other emerging AI threats.
- Design and implement Data Loss Prevention (DLP) controls to protect AI prompts, responses, datasets, logs, and model interactions.
- Secure Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) implementations, AI model endpoints, and enterprise AI workloads.
- Develop AI security testing capabilities, including Prompt Injection testing, adversarial testing, model behavior evaluation, and AI security validation.
- Define AI logging, monitoring, detection use cases, and incident response playbooks for AI-related threats and security events.
- Conduct security assessments of AI vendors, cloud AI services, and third-party AI technologies.
- Partner with Engineering, Cloud, Identity & Access Management (IAM), Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC), Legal, and Security Operations teams to drive secure AI adoption.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to technical teams and executive leadership on AI security strategy, governance, and emerging threats.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in Cybersecurity, Security Engineering, or Security Architecture.
- 3+ years securing cloud platforms, cloud-native applications, APIs, and CI/CD environments.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience implementing security for enterprise AI environments—not simply using AI tools.
- Strong understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Large Language Models (LLMs), AI Governance, AI Risk Management, and Cloud Security.
- Experience securing enterprise AI deployments against Prompt Injection, data leakage, model security risks, and other AI-specific attack vectors.
- Experience with threat modeling, security architecture, security monitoring, detection engineering, and incident response.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively with both engineering teams and executive leadership.
