Commercial Concrete Estimator

Our client is seeking an experienced Commercial Estimator for a full-time, in-office role based in Spring, TX. This position supports a wide range of construction projects, including heavy foundations, wall structures and all light commercial concrete construction.
Job Description:
The Commercial Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial construction projects. This includes reviewing architectural and drawings, evaluating specifications, and developing takeoffs related to concrete. A deep understanding of the sequence of work with the ability of producing a detailed schedule in Microsoft Project. Site visits may occasionally be required to understand project-specific requirements and conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed structural takeoffs for concrete structures, heavy foundations and Walls.
- Review and analyze project plans, drawings, specifications, and proposals to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure estimates reflect scope and project expectations.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities or potential issues in design, schedule, or materials.
- Maintain and update cost databases and pricing histories for structural elements.
- Resolve discrepancies by collecting and analyzing data and proposing adjustments where needed.
- Present finalized estimates with comprehensive breakdowns of materials, labor, and schedule considerations.
- Support preconstruction efforts including budgeting and value engineering.
- Stay up to date on industry trends, materials, and pricing through research and vendor communication.
- Assist in preparing bid packages and RFIs (Request for Information) as needed.
- Occasionally visit project sites to verify scope and site-specific estimating variables.
Qualifications:
- Strong background in estimating.
- Solid knowledge of current building codes, construction practices, and structural systems.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of commercial construction.
- Strong proficiency in estimating software, Microsoft Excel, Word, On screen takeoff and project collaboration tools (PlanGrid or similar).
- Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural plans.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills;high attention to detail.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Prior supervisory experience is a plus.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent work experience in commercial construction estimating will be considered
Physical Requirements:
- Primarily office-based with occasional travel to job sites.
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, climb, and lift up to 25 pounds as required.
- Must be comfortable walking construction sites, climbing stairs/ladders, and working in varying weather conditions if needed.
