Hourly / Salary: BOE

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Machine Operator to join a small, close-knit machine shop team. This is a hands-on role for someone who understands how machines operate, takes pride in quality work, and values structure, safety, and consistency.

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and monitor production machines used for cutting, marking, and related processes
  • Set up jobs based on drawings, work instructions, and job specifications
  • Interpret purchase orders, prints, and specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements
  • Perform continuous quality checks to ensure parts meet customer requirements for accuracy, clarity, and length
  • Use measuring tools such as rulers, scales, and calipers to verify dimensions
  • Perform basic machine maintenance (oiling, cleaning, minor adjustments)
  • Accurately estimate remaining work and time required to complete jobs
  • Communicate realistic completion timelines to support production planning and delivery expectations
  • Use computer systems for labeling and timekeeping
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Follow all safety, documentation, and process requirements without exception
  • Complete required timekeeping and break documentation accurately

 

Required Experience & Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a machine shop environment
  • Strong preference for 5–7 years of machine shop experience
  • Solid understanding of how machines operate and run
  • Experience with CNC machines is highly desirable (but not required)
  • Assembly experience is a plus
  • Transferable machine experience is acceptable (specific machine experience not required)
  • High school diploma or GED required

 

Critical Skill Requirement: Mental Math

This role requires strong mental math skills.

Candidates must be comfortable with:
  • Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Estimating time, materials, and remaining work while continuing to work
  • Making quick, reasonable calculations without stopping production

Precision to the thousandth is not required, understanding and estimation are.
These estimates directly impact customer delivery timelines and internal planning.

 

Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. 
  • Safety consciousness imperative.
