Overview
GTN is seeking a Mission-Critical Mechanical Engineer to serve as a senior technical authority supporting mechanical infrastructure at a large-scale High-Performance Compute Center (HPCC) and its associated critical systems.
This is a hands-on engineering role focused on operational excellence, system reliability, and continuous optimization within a high-availability environment. The engineer will provide deep technical expertise across cooling and HVAC infrastructure while partnering closely with Electrical, Controls, Energy, and Critical Infrastructure teams to maintain uninterrupted operations.
The ideal candidate brings strong mission-critical experience, advanced mechanical systems knowledge, and the ability to operate confidently in live environments where uptime, safety, and procedural discipline are paramount.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical System Ownership & Operations
•Serve as a technical authority for mission-critical mechanical infrastructure including chilled water plants, CRAH/CRAC units, cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, leak detection, and fuel gas systems
•Support the safe and efficient operation of cooling systems required to maintain environmental conditions for high-density compute loads
•Monitor system health, identify anomalies, and drive corrective actions to prevent operational risk
Reliability & Maintenance Engineering
•Support preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies to maximize uptime and equipment lifecycle
•Participate in root cause analyses following equipment failures or environmental excursions
•Conduct system testing, performance audits, and water treatment program oversight
•Recommend system optimizations to improve efficiency, resiliency, and redundancy
Procedures, Compliance & Safety
•Develop, maintain, and refine standard operating procedures, system documentation, and operational logs
•Ensure compliance with Owner standards, OSHA, ASHRAE, and applicable safety codes
•Support lockout/tagout, confined space, and hazard communication programs
•Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, and technical rigor
Cross-Functional Infrastructure Support
•Partner with Electrical, Controls, and IT teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems supporting mission-critical loads
•Coordinate with vendors and service providers to maintain reliability of supporting infrastructure
•Support outage planning, operational changes, and system upgrades
•Contribute technical expertise during expansions, retrofits, and capacity growth initiatives
Performance & Continuous Improvement
•Monitor mechanical reliability metrics and maintenance effectiveness
•Identify opportunities for operational improvement through technology enhancements and process refinement
•Support audit readiness, technical reviews, and commissioning activities
Required Qualifications
•Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC, or related discipline —or equivalent hands-on experience
•8+ years of experience supporting mechanical infrastructure in mission-critical environments such as data centers, power generation facilities, semiconductor plants, or advanced manufacturing
•Deep knowledge of chilled water systems, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC units, pumps, and heat transfer equipment
•Strong understanding of mechanical systems supporting high-availability operations
•Working knowledge of OSHA, ASHRAE, NFPA, and mechanical safety practices
•Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and control sequences
•Strong troubleshooting skills and composure in live operational environments
Preferred Experience
•Experience supporting Tier III / Tier IV or similarly critical facilities
•Exposure to high-density or liquid cooling environments
•Familiarity with commissioning processes and reliability engineering principles
•Background collaborating with third-party operators and OEM partners
