Join Our Team as a Product Development Engineer!

Location: Chicago and Milwaukee are just 40 minutes apart, and this position is fully onsite. Remote work is not an option.

Role Summary: Step into a dynamic role where innovation meets hands-on execution. As a Product Development Engineer, you'll spearhead new product development and enhancement projects, from initial design to final manufacturing. Your expertise will guide the creation of drawings, models, and detailed design packets. Occasionally, you'll take products into the field for testing and provide crucial support. Collaborating with our supply chain team on new products and processes is essential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop detailed project scope of work documents.
  • Plan and manage projects to ensure timely completion.
  • Stay abreast of competitive products and technical developments to recommend improvements.
  • Innovate new product designs or enhancements.
  • Lead design review meetings for prototyping and testing.
  • Select materials and develop material specifications.
  • Utilize FEA models and conduct internal/external testing of materials and assemblies.
  • Perform engineering calculations on material stress and performance metrics.
  • Develop control systems and parameters.
  • Engage in hands-on prototype building, assembly, and testing.
  • Create and execute test plans.
  • Assist in manufacturing process development and training, including workstation development, process flow planning, line balancing, capacity planning, and quality control planning.

Required Skills/Competencies:
  • Strong internal communication skills and collaborative teamwork approach.
  • Scientific mindset for developing test protocols.
  • Hands-on prototyping skills;comfortable with hand tools and basic fabrication.
  • Good understanding of industrial electrical systems up to 480V three phase.
  • Experience with PLC and microprocessor control systems.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong technical writing abilities.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to reduce manufacturing cost and complexity.
  • Ability to interpret engineering documents such as drawings, schedules, and routings.
  • Ability to create, read, and modify electrical schematics and ladder diagrams for control logic.
  • Ability to create presentations and effectively communicate engineering topics to management.

Preferred Experience:
  • Bachelor's or Graduate's Degree in science, engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Eight or more years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in a low-volume/high-mix manufacturing environment.
  • Background in injection molding, dynamic systems, sheet metal, and gear movements.
  • Slight lead or management experience is a plus.

Computer Skills: Proficiency in SolidWorks, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
