Sales Applications Engineer

Job Description

The Applications Engineer specializes in and participates in all the technical aspects of VMRA projects and technical products by engaging potential clients and elucidating the benefits of VMRA offerings. Responsibilities include consulting on product development and elucidating product features to customers during presentations.

**Major Duties and Responsibilities**

- Collaborate with sales and engineering staff to develop quotes for new projects.
- Cultivate and expand new business to maximize revenue and margin growth, with a focus on new business development.
- Ensure projects meet system requirements by working with customers and engineers.
- Develop sales approaches and pitches tailored to client needs, concerns, and objectives.
- Manage project opportunities throughout the quoting phase.
- Create new account relationships from leads, cold calls, appointments, and internal sources.
- Conduct technical presentations via phone, MS Teams, or in person to explain VMRA products and services.
- Recommend new and improved VMRA products to clients, highlighting cost-effectiveness.
- Secure orders, ensure product standards, and oversee product delivery.
- Contribute to Customer Relationship Management, including responding to customer inquiries.
- Coordinate with the sales team to understand customer demands and offer sales support.
- Manage Aftermarket Sales, including quoting spare parts and managing spare part orders with procurement.
- Support outside sales efforts and the VP of Business Development as needed.
- Provide timely and detailed status updates.
- Ensure compliance with safety rules and procedures.
- Utilize SolidWorks and DraftSight to draft and draw new project concepts in both 2D and 3D.
- Coordinate with outside vendors to obtain quotes for pricing and lead time of equipment.
- Collaborate with VMRA Test Engineering to establish testing requirements for design validation.
- Create robot simulations as needed.
- Facilitate the handoff of information gathered during concepting to Project Engineering.
- Perform other assigned duties.

**Supervisory/Management Responsibilities**

No direct reports.

**Minimum Education and Experience Required**

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME), Electrical Engineering (BSEE), or related field from an accredited college or university.
- 1 –3 years of engineering design experience.

**Preferred Qualifications**

- Proficiency in SolidWorks and DraftSight.
- Experience with automation or manufacturing-related design.
- Knowledge of automation and manufacturing processes and designs.

**General Skills/Qualifications**

- Proficiency in various design software.
- Experience with intricate mechanical designs.
- Ability to estimate time and effort for design completion.
- Demonstrated ability to execute designs according to engineering specifications.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft applications.
- Self-motivated with a flexible attitude.
- Strong computer and mathematical skills.
- Exceptional communication skills.

**Physical Requirements**

- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Regularly and up to 50 lbs. Occasionally.
- Close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color determination, and adjustment of focus required.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear regularly.
- Occasional bending, twisting, climbing, kneeling, and balancing.
- Ability to use hands to grasp, reach, and operate objects, tools, or controls.
- Occasional exposure to a production environment.
- Compliance with safety or PPE requirements.

**Work Environment**

Occasional work in outside weather conditions and near moving mechanical parts. Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions. Noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

**Travel**

Approximately 30% travel required, including occasional overnight stays and local day travel.
