Overview of the Role
Our client is seeking a Tax Manager who combines deep technical expertise in tax compliance and tax planning with strong client advisory and team leadership skills. In this role, you will oversee end-to-end tax engagements, provide strategic guidance to clients, and mentor developing tax professionals.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute beyond compliance work, including business development, client relationship management, process improvement, and practice growth initiatives.
Key ResponsibilitiesTax Compliance & Engagement Management
  • Lead and deliver a wide range of federal and state tax engagements, including individual, corporate, partnership, and pass-through entity returns across diverse industries.
  • Manage the full tax lifecycle, including tax planning, compliance, research, review, and resolution of complex tax matters.
  • Oversee engagement execution, ensuring adherence to professional standards, regulatory requirements, and firm quality control policies.
  • Review work prepared by Associates and Senior Associates for technical accuracy and completeness.
Tax Planning & Advisory Services
  • Identify and implement proactive tax planning strategies to optimize client outcomes and minimize tax exposure.
  • Conduct technical tax research and interpret evolving tax laws, regulations, and IRS guidance.
  • Translate complex tax concepts into clear, actionable recommendations for clients and stakeholders.
  • Advise clients on entity structuring, transactions, and other strategic tax considerations.
Client Relationship Management & Business Development
  • Serve as a trusted advisor by building and maintaining strong, long-term client relationships.
  • Deliver responsive, solution-oriented client service with a focus on retention and satisfaction.
  • Partner with firm leadership on client development, cross-selling opportunities, and growth initiatives.
  • Participate in networking and relationship-building efforts to support practice expansion.
Leadership, Mentorship & Team Development
  • Lead, coach, and mentor Associates and Senior Associates to strengthen technical competencies, engagement management skills, and professional development.
  • Delegate assignments effectively and manage workflows to ensure deadlines and budgets are met.
  • Support accurate engagement budgeting, realization tracking, and billing processes tied to work performed.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance team culture grounded in accountability and continuous improvement.
Process Improvement & Compliance Excellence
  • Contribute to improvements in tax processes, workflow efficiency, and technology utilization.
  • Stay current on emerging tax legislation and best practices, sharing knowledge across the team.
  • Support internal controls and compliance with applicable AICPA standards and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (Master’s in Taxation or Accounting preferred).
  • Active CPA license or Enrolled Agent (EA) certification.
  • 5–7 years of progressive experience in public accounting tax services.
  • Strong technical proficiency in federal and state tax compliance, tax research, and tax planning strategies.
  • Experience managing multiple client engagements simultaneously with strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, review work, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Self-motivated professional who thrives both independently and within a collaborative team environment.
